st columba falls

North East Tasmania has a strong tin mining history and we visited the remains of the Anchor Mine to see the stamper battery rusting away in the fern trees. The North East has are some beautiful beaches and Tomahawk Beach was impressive with the Bass Straight Islands visible in the distance. At Musselroe Bay we saw the colurful red lichen covered rocks and watched the storm clouds come in over the bay. Nearby Top Camp Beach in Mt William National Park is another starkly beautiful beach exposed to the prevailing strong north-westerly winds. We also walked to St Columba falls which is one of the highest in Tasmania. Little Blue Lake is another reminder of the history of tin mining in the area. While it is weirdly beautiful it is also very toxic.
